Rounding out the photographs from the contemporary portion of the Armory Show, here is a look at Carolina Nitsch’s booth. Trash turns sculpture in a work that fascinates, even if it is a touch repulsive.

Damian Ortega, a mixed media artist, began his career as a political cartoonist. No surprise really that his current work explores specific economic and cultural situations related to commodity consumption. His Ulysses Way (2010) was shown by White Cube at The Armory Show.

A funny thing happens when you are former assistant curator of a whaling museum – any painting featuring a whale causes an instant love affair.

Gallery Side 2, of Tokyo, exhibited a series of works by Takeo Hanazawa at The Armory Show. My personal favorite is shown above.

Copenhagen’s Galleri Bo Bjerggaard showed Brigitte Waldach’s Nets (2011) at The Armory Show. With a narrative that spans two framed sheets and employs the German artist’s signature red pen on hand made paper. Inspired by literature and film, Waldach excels at figurative drawing.

2011 shotbyjake.com 1182 The Armory Show | Ambach & Rice

Seattle’s Ambach & Rice hosted the NY debut of Dutch artist Ron Van Der Ende at this years The Armory Show. Sustainability is a simple way to characterize the work – Ron Van Der Ende employing salvaged wood, nails, and glue in captivating 3-dimensional still life. Often, the process is more interesting than the end result, however the intricacies of the bas-relief  provide not just physical, but narrative depth as well.
