Rude Britania is now open at Tate Modern. I’ve posted a few preview pieces before, and here’s a final nod to the exhibition – a video of Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell discussing The Worship of Bacchus by George Cruickshank. The exhibition runs to September 5, 2010.

tate wallpaper front The Tate Modern turns 10

Wallpaper* celebrates the Tate Modern’s 10th birthday with a nice little feature of past highlights and installations. The gallery is gearing up for an expansion, to be handled by Herzog and de Meuron. One of the key spaces in the museum is the Turbine Hall, site of the Unilever Series, which invites artists to create site specific work. This forms the basis for Wallpaper*s slide show, a perfect rundown of the series and a worthy exploration of some of the best of the Tate Modern.

Check out a few images from the Unilever Series after the jump. Included are Carsten Holler’s slides (above), Anish Kapoor’s “Marsyas,” and Olfur Eliasson’s “The Weather Project.”

Video | Cildo Meireles

30 April 2010, 23.55 | Posted in Art | No comments »

This documentary (Gerald Fox, UK 2008, 50 min) by award-winning director Gerald Fox, presents an intimate portrait of the artist’s life and work, a story largely told by the artist himself.
16.03.2010

A pioneer of installation art in the 1960s, Brazilian Cildo Meireles (b.1948) has influenced generations of international artists, yet, surprisingly, his work is little known in Britain. His dramatic and politically charged environments have included maze-like structures built upon shards of broken glass that the visitor must walk across, and rooms filled with ashes and the smell of gas.

Video | Life with Gorky

31 March 2010, 23.59 | Posted in Art | No comments »

At 18 minutes long, Life with Gorky is a shade longer than the average video posted here. However, the stories told by Arshile Gorky’s wife, Agnes “Mouguch” Magruder, are well worth sitting through. A fascinating insight into the artist’s life and mind.

Arshile Gorky: A Retrospective began life at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the exhibition is now on view at Tate Modern through May 3, 2010. The above video comes via Tate Channel.

Quick nod to my mate Fats, who was on hand last Sunday at the Tate Modern for Bring the Noise. Upset I missed the day. For photographers, his use of the time to help educate the public on new trends and technologies is worth noting.

highsnobiety - Street Art Film Series @ Tate Modern
Tate Modern broke some ground this summer by commissioning six street artists to paint the exterior facade of its south bank building. The first museum exploration of Street Art in London, Street Art runs until the end of this month. Concluding the exhibition this weekend sees two days of street art films presented at Tate Modern. Following a series of talks, this event pushes the public programming effort a little further. All events are free, and take place this weekend, Aug. 16 and 17.
See the full flier after the jump for event listings and times.
