Yes, you have seen this before. However, the popularity of the original set (limited to just 250) merits a second series, and this time each cup and saucer combo is indvidually numbered. Once again manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent, Ron English’s tea set is not only great pop art but great ceramic as well.

california kustom 01 front California Kustom Presented by Baby Tattooville

California Kustom, now on view at Riverside Art Museum, essentially covers “Lowbrow” art as the term relates to the California “Pop Surrealist Movement.” The coverage is, understandably broad… it has to be, the practitioners themselves veering from the core and continuing to expand scope. Included is work by Anthony Ausgang, Van Arno, Coop, Ron English, Michael Hussar, Johnny Ryan, Suzanne Williams, and William Stout. Each defines the movement differently and succeeds in a mastery of their own distinct expression.

California Kustom runs to January 8, 2011. Arrested Motion hit the opening reception. More highlights from the exhibition follow.
