POW WOW Hawaii 2012

05 May 2011, 23.56 | Posted in Art | No comments »

Pow Wow Hawaii is a gathering of creative minds. Art and music events for local communities, on a global scale.

With the success of Pow Wow 2011 Pow Wow will now become an annual event in Honolulu. In 2012 we have doubled the artist list with some larger than life names. We have ambitions to take over the whole street and transform it with art. During one week in February, Hawaii will literally be transformed with creative energy. Beautifying a street that was once considered a bane on the neighborhood into a living gallery.

“With POW WOW fast approaching next week, we will be publishing a series of interviews with the participants of this year’s event. Naturally, first up is the mastermind behind the annual art get-together, Jasper Wong. A man of many talents – artist, gallery owner (Above Second), illustrator, and crossdresser – we’ll be looking forward to what he has planned for us next week when the festivities start.” – Arrested Motion.

Jasper is a good guy and a great artist. Hit the link above for the full interview.

Fresh news direct from my friend, Jasper Wong, who has announced Pow Wow Hawaii -

Usually the beauty of art is most commonly enjoyed during its final stage. All the blood, sweat and tears happen behind closed doors. However, that is where the real grandeur lies. The creative process. Imagine for a moment a gathering of internationally renowned artists in one place. A place that will allow them to do what they do best: be creative. We give them the tools, the space and the freedom to paint for one week. During a period of four days, we make that process open to the public, allowing them full engagement and interaction between the artists and their audience. They witness the creativity in its entirety and become an essential part of the artists’ process. It’s about the breaking down of those closed doors and making art accessible. Seeing creativity happen from beginning to end.

A selection of images from four of the included artists – 123Klan, Megs, Will Barras, and Jasper himself – along with the full press release for Pow Wow Hawaii after the jump.
