the heads of state posters front From Sea to Shining Sea by The Heads of State

Philadelphia founded, nationally distributed, design collective, The Heads of State, have created a new poster series “From Sea to Shining Sea.” The collection of posters follows traditional travel advertising, highlighting key visuals from the nation’s major cities (there’s Chicago, D.C., New York, Miami, etc.). Jason Kernvich and Dusty Summers are both graduates of the Tyler School of Art, and have helped to revive poster making through work with local Philadelphia music artists. Today, Kernvich works from Brooklyn, while Summers is based in Seattle. Together they have been recipients of some handsome rewards.

The graphic quality of these posters is indicative of their work, and more simply just all around lovely.

More detailed looks at “From Sea to Shining Sea” follow. (via Hypebeast).

curated mag - James Provost Mid-Century Modern Poster

Though these types of prints (showing iconic design/chairs) are rather common, the aesthetic pull always remains. James Provost’s version illustrates the great creations of Eames and Mies simply and with great reverence for each individual designs silhouette. Available in a few sizes – from petite to massive – from Imagekind. (I love the naming of the sizes).

Detail above, poster in full after the jump. (via Retro to Go).

Dieter Rams: 10 Principles Poster

curated mag - Dieter Rams: 10 Principles Poster

With the Less is More exhibition on view at the Design Museum and the new book from Gestalten, there’s certainly no shortage of Rams about these days. The exhibition has some quality product as ancillary, including the 10 Principles Poster. Stemming from Rams self-criticism in the early 1980s, the principles cover the designer’s rules for good design.

Here the content outweighs the aesthetic, for while the poster doesn’t have an extremely powerful visual pull, the ideas are unquestionably worth review. Produced by Vitsue and Bibliotheque for the Design Museum Shop. A detail of the poster is shown above, head to the jump to view it in full. (via Retro to Go).

During the Cold War, the Polish Poster School garnered international attention and admiration. Though state controlled, the designs still carried commentary on the artists political surroundings. Polish Posters highlights these works in a new exhibition drawing from MOMA’s collection. The striking look and graphic appeal of the Polish Poster School is well articulated throughout.

On view until November 30, 2009.
