This is Adam Turnbull’s Everyday Illustrations.

13 December 2011, 19.00 | Posted in Art, Design | No comments »

AJT This is Adam Turnbulls Everyday Illustrations.Adam James Turnbull wants us to be mindful of everyday objects.

I started working on this series of illustrations just to observe my day a little differently. Most days are spent getting to the studio, drawing, and thinking about briefs, and I just wanted to look at things in another way.

It’s the kind of mindfulness, for example: you can look at a tree and think ‘that is a tree’ or you can look at the shape of the tree, the colours of the leaves, the texture of the bark and the life forms that use it for a home. I wanted to try and apply this to everyday things.

More illustrations after the jump.

coop 01 curatedmag Preview | COOP at Corey Helford Gallery

Born in Bixby, Oklahoma, COOP is gearing up for his second solo showing in Culver City. As follow to his 2009 exhibition at Corey Helford Gallery, COOP’s “Idle Hands” shows a refinement of previous work and what the artist calls “hillbilly sex crime pop art.” Influenced by pulp magazines and pushing boundaries of deliberate provocation, COOP also shares his process through a series of sketches and drawings. These compliment 8 large scale paintings, each designed to push his signature pop style.

On view from July 15 to August 3, 2011.

Chris Booth at Metro Gallery

booth 01 curatedmag Chris Booth at Metro Gallery

Opening today, new works from Chris Booth hang in Metro Gallery through June 11, 2011.

A mixture of painting and sculpture, Booth’s works extend into visitors’ space like the pop-up illustration books of our childhood. Distancing himself from the “high art” pop-art genre made famous by Warhol and Lichtenstein, Booth embraces the “low brow”. Describing his work as “Lichtenstein goes to Osaka”, the artist relives the art of Japanese anime, inspired by the “super-flat” movement led by artists such as Takashi Murakami.

Tate Videos | Pop Life

25 November 2009, 16.16 | Posted in Art | No comments »

While Pop Life has had no shortage of coverage here and on other sites, the worthiness of Tate’s videos on the exhibition still stand almost two months into the run. Above is a overview of the exhibition with curator Alison Gingeras. After the jump, videos of Hirst’s Twins Jeff Koon’s Rabbit (which was erected in Covent Garden at the beginning of the exhibition run.
