Not far a field from that exhibition is an ode to Italian Modernism at the Estorick Collection. Drawing from the RIBA British Architectural Library, some 100 photographs make up Framing Modernism. Swedish photographer Edvard Koinberg has created a visual counterpart to Carl Linnaeus’ 18th century work on plant sexuality. Linnaeus worked with a collection of 20,000 plants and grouped them according to sexual organs, drawing parallels to human anatomy. It was a “sexual revolution” for plants. Koinberg dedicates his photographic efforts to documenting the life cycle of plants. The effort is apparent in Edvard Koinberg: Herbarium Amoris. Floral Romance. The book is out now from Taschen.
