The How Original Show by Parra.

Dutch artist Parra returns to Los Angeles’ HVW8 Art + Design Gallery with The How Original Show. An exhibition consisting of all new work in the form of drawings and paintings, revealing the process of sketch to final piece. Each work is an original, a departure from his well known numbered silkscreen editions.

Parra (b.1976) is best known for his curved post-Pop imagery, highly saturated colors, vibrant hand-drawn letters and worlds inhabited by hybrid, surreal characters. Celebrated by galleries and championed by an underground following from the outset, Parra has quickly become a respected and eclectic artist worldwide. Working across drawing, painting, animation and sculpture, Parra creates an enigmatic and instantly recognizable style that defies easy categorization. Parra is cofounder of cult apparel label Rockwell Clothing and a member of electronic music group Le Le. Parra lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Dutch illustrator and sculptor Parra has launched a new site, byParra.com. A comprehensive location for much of his work, the site shares some never-before-seen items and a full scope of the artist’s output. Functioning as a celebration of the post-pop master, there’s all the curvy women and witty jokes you’d expect.

In addition to a good range (thought a bit limited now) of images, the site provides a full list of Parra’s exhibitions and a full career break down.

Produced by Belgian company Toykyo – which specializes in artist designed product – Parra’s latest sculpture, “Take a Rest,” is released in a limited run of 70 units. Those numbers are spread over three color options – black, blue, and red – making the individual porcelain pieces rather rare. Each comes in a screen printed and numbered commemorative box. Belgian studio Toykyo has collaborated with Dutch artist Parra on a coffee table that is a sure conversation starter. Using Parra’s trademark legs to provide the base, the table comes with a strong range of colorful tops. (via Gltn).

Arkitip and Incase have partnered to open Project Space, “a unique setting for exhibitions, performances and installations” that stays true to Arktip’s founding principles: “supporting the arts, promoting freedom of expression and making art affordable and accessible.”

Their first exhibition is with 32-year-old Dutch illustrator and designer Parra – who I’m sure most of you know all too well. The opening reception takes place Thursday, April 1 at 19:00 PST. The show will run until April 30th.

Just like they did with their KR collaboration, Incase now has also released a series of wallpapers and screensavers, using the Parra design that also appeared on the collaborative bags and cases. You can get yours for free now here.

Not one to stay out of the news for long, Parra’s sculptural chair has received a nice rundown over at SuperTouch. The chair is a produced with the help of Toykyo. We’ll be on the look out for more concrete release information.

It is certainly one of the most impressive pieces by the Dutch artist and seeing it, we hope for more in this direction.

Dutch artist Parra has released new prints at Pictures On Walls. Both the “New Wave” and the “Nipple Twister” prints come in editions of 95 and are signed by the artist. They are now available for 95 Pounds.

POW also got in new prints by Blu, Ian Stevenson, Eelus, Mudwig, Bast and others.

Paris’ The Lazy Dog welcomes Boo The Hoo, a new collection of work by Dutch artist Parra. The show is exceptional for bringing the first sets of works with acrylic to the public. Also on desplay are drawings, seriographs and the above sculpture. The exhibit is open until January 10, 2009. (Via Guillotine).
