Brand new to the OHWOW store, Julia Chiang’s ceramic Black Apples.

Brooklyn based artist Julia Chiang presents an exclusive edition of 50 glazed porcelain apples available at OHWOW. Chiang chose the apple because it is a symbol of desire and an icon of the city of New York. Each unique apple is handmade in porcelain and glazed a glossy black (3” high x 3 1/2” diameter) and is packaged in a wooden box that has been burned with the details of the edition and is signed and numbered (5” long x 6” wide x 5 1/4” high). According to Chiang, “Most of what I do reveals the unevenness and imperfection of my hand.” “I am interested more in what are viewed as flaws rather than perfection, and in finding objects and materials that hold a story and history.”

They hit for $200 and are only available here.

Luis Gispert “My Favorite American Series” Poster

Luis Gispert, Brooklyn-based photographer and film maker, has worked with O.H.W.O.W on a special double sided poster. His work – entitled “My Favorite American Series” – hinges on a belief in the fragmented nature of the American experience. That notion is clear in the poster, “luxury” urban life juxtaposed against nature on one side. It’s a stylized vision, to be sure, but one with enough depth to act as a “conversation piece.”

Each poster is unsigned and numbered out of 50.

Rosson Crow’s recent Deitch Projects exhibition Bowery Boys has found book shape via O.H.W.O.W. Her history paintings for the March show found Crow immersed in the traditions of the Downtown art scene – drawing from Haring and others in her large scale paintings. The work also toys with notions of the “bad boy” and downtown rebellion.

The book includes a critical essay by Kathy Grayson and a range of material providing narrative inspiration for the Bowery Boys exhibition.
