An interesting idea from Korean designer Joonhuyn Kim. As practical as it is to have a flat light bulb, say in regards to shipping perhaps, or storage, or even in the carry home… I think this may be too smart for it’s own good. What it gains in efficiency of transport, it looses in uniformity of light. Not to say I’m not disappointed I can’t get a few of these for my apartment (sadly, they aren’t in production). Because how cool is a flat light bulb? Images after the jump.

Ridiculously cool floating “Silhouette Lam” by Lamp Lamp.

What makes this lamp floating is the integrated levitation technology. It consist out of electromagnetic components and a sophisticated control system. Next to the fact that they employ the very latest LED technology, the lamp is low in power consumption too. With a touch of your fingertip, the lamp can be dimmed to the intensity you require.

This set of whimsical lighting from French lighting studio Challières Paris, designed by Mathieu Challieres, the Voilere lamps are constructed with cooper wiring and faux birds. There are several varieties, ranging from the tambour drum table lamp (shown above) to giant pendant shade.

The London Table Lamp is designer Charlie Bowles first solo lighting design. He graduated from Leeds University and joined Original BTC, the company founded by his father, Peter Bowles, immediately after. His first lamp proves an understanding of the family ethos “to design and produce lights that your are instantly at home with.” Charlie balances a polished chrome-plated steel arm and base with colorful aluminum shades – giving a clear sense of both fun and utility.

Istanbul’s naifdesign have produced the Darwin Lamp. With a gorgeous wire frame, the lamp extends up from a graceful bulb before tapering and building up to the light source. All hand made in iron. Available in black or yellow.

Studio Gorm is responsible for this charmer, “a table lamp with an integrated tray, works well as bedside table to collect books, phones and small odds and ends or as an entry table to deposit incoming mail and keys.” Made of hardwood, porcelain and steel.

Based in Brooklyn, Perch! design is a one woman, Amy Adams, operation specializing in smile inducing ceramics. The Early Bird Pendant Light is prime example. Designed for children’s rooms, the lamp emits a quite glow through open wings. Available in black,  orange or white.

Gonçalo Campos has collaborated with Maria Bruno Néo on a new collection of candle holders. Produced in porcelain, the candle holders are by using cotton fabric as the temporary structure. This fabric technique – Pano – holds the ceramic in place and also allows for the production of unique shapes. When the ceramic is dried, the candle sticks are fired and during this process the fabric is burned away. The resulting material is delicate porcelain with truly individual appeal – holding on to the texture of the fabric.

James DeWulf’s first light fixture, the Triton Pendant, stands at sixteen inches of solid brass. A refined Gothic form, the pendant lamp is in DeWulf’s words, “a celebration of light.  The design is a control of negative space while the fixture honors and protects the light.” Each light comes with 10 feet of chain for unique hanging potential.

Designed for AlmaLight by Oriol Llahona, The Suit Lamp cuts a brilliant silhouette in both large and small size. The Spanish designer’s creation casts a soft light over any space, effectively “dressing” the area and promoting a comfortable, intimate setting.
