Jeff Koons for Kiehl’s

koons 01 curatedamg Jeff Koons for Kiehls

Last night, Jeff Koons “A Wonderland of Merry”collection launched officially at Kiehl’s New York Flagship. Since we’re not immune to the lure of art star paparazzi photography – here’s one, just one, of Mr. Koons and Kaws.

The highlight of the event is the window display, and of course Koons’ packaging design. Koons brings a fresh look to the world famous apothecary company (founded in 1851), the bold candy color hearts and flowers fitting the Kiehl’s bill nicely.

Most importantly: 100% of Kiehl’s net profits from the sale of each product will benefit The Koons Family Institute, an initiative of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC).

Photographs by Jacob Breinholt for Curated. More after the jump.

highsnobiety - Koons at Versailles | Installation Pictures

Controversial. Innovative. Wrong. Whatever the take, there’s no doubt that Jeff Koon’s exhibition at Versailles has raised eyebrows. The works are now installed and on view, and LaMJC has a great collection of images from the show. If you are in or around Paris, you’ve got until December 14 to catch the action.

Jeff Koons “Puppy Vase” Re-Release

22 August 2008, 20.29 | Posted in Art | No comments »

highsnobiety - Jeff Koons

The infamous Jeff Koons Puppy Vase is being released by Gagosian in a limited run of 3′000 pieces, each priced at 7′500 USD.

"Because Leos can be such utter pains to shop for around birthday time. And because a Jeff Koons puppy vase may well be the next best thing to well, pretty much anything. Therefore Gagosian’s release this month of an edition of 3000 porcelain puppy vases signed and numbered by the artist is sure to whet a few appetites. Having first made a splash on the contemporary art scene back in 1998, their iconic design took cues from Koons’s mongo-sized puppy sculpture (1992), which was filled with over seventeen thousand flowers. Chances are if you didn’t see it exhibited in Germany, Australia, Bilbao, or the Rockefeller Center, then you may have spotted another version erected upon the Connecticut grounds of its equally famous owners, Stephanie Seymour and Peter Brant. "The vase is a symbol of love, warmth, and happiness," says Koons. Priced at $7,500, one would hope so." Via VMagazine.

Definitely a nice collectors piece, coming at a reasonable price, compared to other pieces from the artist.

Jeff Koons Visiting Versailles

highsnobiety - Jeff Koons visiting Versailles The Guardian reports that Jeff Koons will displayed at the Palace of the Sun King. From September to December, Versailles will host several of Koon’s sculptures. The exhibition of the work is groundbreaking, asserting that Versailles is not an unchanging historic outpost. Obviously, the decision has ruffled some feathers. Koons, however, is delighted to have his work shown against a historic backdrop. He wisely notes that thejuxtaposition will provide great context.

Koons by Taschen

Those of you interested in art have of course heard about Jeff Koons. All the rest of you has probably seen the Supreme skateboard decks designed by the artist. Now Taschen Books has released an exciting book on Jeff Koons.
“From kinky to kitsch to conceptual, Jeff Koons’s art is anything but conformist. Since he stirred up the art world establishment in the 1980s with his unapologetic basketball sculptures and stainless steel toy blow-ups, Koons has been known as somewhat of a bad boy—a reputation he confirmed in the early 90s via works depicting him having sex with then-wife Cicciolina, the Italian porn star-cum-politician. Following this torrid phase, he changed gears to produce the gargantuan Puppy, the 43-foot tall floral terrier that now resides at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Koons’s exploitation of the banal, in the aggrandizement and/or embodiment of kitsch and pop imagery, has become his trademark; detractors may delight in their naysaying, but Koons’s work commands millions at auction and his position at the forefront of contemporary art is indisputable.”
Taschen has now released the book “Koons” in a limited edition of 1′500 numbered and signed copies. The book comes with 606 pages all about this exceptional artist and is now on sale for 750 Euros.
Check out some pages of the book after the jump.
