DSC 0261 540x358 Recap | Bandhini @ Interior Illusions

Last night in Los Angeles, Interior Illusions threw a holiday party that doubled as an introduction to the collaboration between them and home wear designer Bandhini. Bandhini is a sustainable business, based in Australia. All the items are hand crafted with an eye towards the knowledge that all the materials will return to the Earth at some point. They have been partnered with the same group of talented crafts people in India for close to two decades. Each item has it’s own unique signature and you can really see the labor that goes into making each one of these one of a kind pieces.

Preview | Vintage camera nightlights

VCHeader Preview | Vintage camera nightlightsI was wondering how I could add to my vintage camera collection the other day and these are perfect. Such a cool concept to repurpose these old camera.

Jason Hull is repurposing (not pristine) vintage cameras from the 1950s and 1960s by turning them into swell nightlights. Hull, a long-time employee at Pixar, created them to sell at the company’s craft fair in December but says he’ll “put any unsold nightlights up on etsy” afterwards. via: Laughing Squid

I am going to be stalking his flickr page for updates until they go up on etsy…

Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co.

0sesligh01 Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co.

I am  sucker for old fixtures, and these are the real deal.

I don’t use this word often, but there is some seriously wonderful stuff over at Portland-based Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co., which just launched their new website earlier this month. The company made their name when founder Brian Faherty uncovered a cache of forgotten cast-iron molds for glass shades in a warehouse and realized they were for making old-school–literally “old school” hanging lamps that many an American public student will recognize (above, center). They were at their most popular in the first half of the 20th Century, but the NYC public school I attended in the ’70s had them. Faherty restored the molds and started making them again. The Guggenheim wants to paint your interiors.

Guggenheim Paint The Guggenheim wants to paint your interiors.

Wowza. I’ve always wanted the same color scheme in my house as the Mountains at Saint-Rémy.

The Guggenheim Museum has launched two collections of interior paint colors. It’s a genius idea for a museum, a natural extension of its brand, utilitarian, yet absolutely art-oriented.

50 Gallery Colors is a collection of neutral hues that the museum has used over the years as backdrops for its artwork and photographs. It even includes the archival shades that the architect Frank Lloyd Wright selected when he designed the building. The other set, called Classical Colors, is composed of 150 shades pulled from paintings in the museum’s permanent collections, including works by Paul Cézanne, Vasily Kandinsky, and Vincent van Gogh. via: Design Milk

Streetology by Facet Studio

Having shared Sneakerology earlier in the week, here is a look at Facet Studio’s design for Streetology in Sydney. Like the sneaker shop, this t-shirt shop blends digital and physical experience and here the idea is to display the maximum amount of t-shirts in a small space. Through 170 dispensers, Streetology can share over 2,000 shirts neatly and make all easily accessible to the consumer. Another example of Facet Studio’s talents in creating unique retail environments. (via Frame).

Located in Sydney, Sneakerology displays wares in neatly arranged plywood boxes. Each box has a corresponding number, which allows customers quick reference when utilizing the shops interactive console to engage in a bit of sneaker research. It is a smartly designed space, one that at once pays homage to the product and bridges the gap between digital and physical retail.

New Foot Patrol Store by the Wilson Brothers and Brinkworth

foot patrol front New Foot Patrol Store by the Wilson Brothers and Brinkworth

As a sneaker collector, I have found memories of the original Foot Patrol shop. As a design fan, I’m also really into the new iteration of the space. Properly hammering down the bunker theme, designers the Wilson Brothers and Brinkworth have produced a space fitting of the “hidden” nature of both shop and product. (There is a good underlying shop within a shop theme too, which makes a great deal of sense given the new ownership structure).

Current creative director and original owner Michael Copperman, will continue to ensure that Foot Patrol product is unlike much of the high street fodder. Thanks to his design team, he’s got a concept interior that hits the nail on the head. (Images via Frame).

Foot Patrol is located on Berwick Street in London’s Soho. Interior images of the space follow.

Black + Blum’s Desk Organizer

curated mag - Black + Blum's Desk Organizer

Being into ceramics, and especially porcelain, Black + Blum’s desk organizer strikes immediate fancy. More appropriately a “desk tidier,” the object has a contemporary twist with desk items woven into the transfer patterning. Thought not particularly inventive, it does strike away from the usual plastic organizer… and gently nod to those of use who clutter old coffee cups with half used pens. (via BLTD).

Camper Store Malmo

curated mag - Camper Store Malmo

As far as shoe shop interiors go, Camper always sets a high standard (in my opinion). The designers the company works with offer just enough personality to the stark retail stage to keep the set Camper sales platform from getting dull. In Malmo, the site of Camper’s first Swedish outpost, TAF (the firm of Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Stahlbom) drew from the old saying “everyone loves ice cream.” This is most apparent in the shops furnishings, taking clear cue from Popsicle sticks. Vanilla colored rubber forms the curtains, the color echoed in floor and ceiling. (via David Report).

The tables hit the theme best. View more of those after the jump.

Custom Shelving by dbd Studio

Housing a massive collection of books in a small space is a large task. Doing so with reverence to the interior, and without sacrificing aesthetics, is even larger. dbd Studio of Chantilly, VA, solves the problem by creating a curving wall unit of plywood. A fine example of innovative use of new digital design technology, the shelving turns an otherwise nondescript apartment into something rather marvelous.

More photos of the project and a transformation video after the jump. (via Dornob).
