Heath, the LA outfit noted for fine handmade ceramics, has gotten into the glass business. With an 80-year old facility in West Virginia, Heath Glass is dedicated to “preserving the craft of American glass making.” Each glass is touched by the hands of no less than 10 craftsmen. Despite traditional values, the look is contemporary. Glasses for your morning oj, afternoon mojito, and evening Cab are all part of the range.

finnish design front Straightforward New Finnish Design

As mentioned in yesterday’s Valencian Design Showcase post, there are a number of solid satilite exhibitions running alongside ICFF in New York.

Wallpaper* reviews “Straightforward New Finnish Design,” taking place at Chelsea Market (410 W. 16, New York). As to be expected, the designs are function led. Some 50 designers make up the showcase – their wares ranging from lighting to furniture. Housewares also figure into the mix, and in my opinion are some of the strongest pieces on display (at least from what I glean from the slideshow).
