One of the more intriguing recent works from Pale Horse Design, this skate deck totem pole was created for the “Splinters & Papercuts” exhibition housed at their studio space. It’s an ambitious personal project, and one with terrific graphic integrity. Additionally, the use of skate decks is a novel approach to the totem form.

ks 01 curatedmag Kai and Sunny present The Flower Show featuring David Mitchell

Kai and Sunny’s latest exhbition, “The Flower Show”, opens on June 2, 2011 at StolenSpace.

Their new exhibition, ‘The Flower Show’, follows the success of previous sell-out solo shows: ‘What A Wonderful World’ (2009) and ‘Return To The Wild’ (2010) at the Stolen Space Gallery, London, and their continued collaboration with Daydreaming with… James Lavelle at Haunch of Venison, London (2010).

The new show features a series of monotone works, highlighted in glittering silver, which explore the word ‘flower’. These include large-scale, silkscreened images which illustrate the complexity of the flower. This latest work demonstrates Kai and Sunny’s continuing intricacy and connection with nature but also shows a developing maturity and intensity.

As part of the exhibition, the duo are releasing an A3 limited edition box set containing five letter-pressed images from the show. This set includes a new short story written exclusively for these images entitled, ‘The Gardener’, by the Booker-prize nominated author of ‘Cloud Atlas’ – David Mitchell.

The work will be on view through June 26, 2011.

Get your headphones out at the office today, because “Globe Poster: An Illustrated History Of American Music” from NPR is a must listen. Of course, the site also provides ample reading material and great visuals too. Globe has been running in East Baltimore for 80 years, so not surprisingly the firm has handled as many graphic styles as it has musical ones. The results are all bold, and the stories rich too – the founding of the company, hatched over a card game with location decided for Baltimore’s centrality, example enough.

Check out a few more posters after the leap and check out the history of Globe at NPR.
