Opening on January 15, 2010, Make My Burden Lighter offers an examination of “the sinful truths of American life with winsome cartoonish charm.” James, no stranger to New York having emerged from the buoyant graffiti scene of the early 1980s, is making his solo show debut. Gering & Lopez, no stranger to the exhibition of famed street artists, is host.

Eleanor Mathiseon and Xavier A. Tapies, the authors of Street Art and the World on Terror (2007), release their new book Street Artists: The Complete Guide today. A fully illustrated journey through some of the biggest names in street art, the photography in Street Artists is handled by Glenn Arango. The book is published by Graffito Books. Curated by Pose2, the joint work of Cope2 and Chor Boogie will open on September 26, 2009 at Mid-City Arts. The exhibition, entitled Beauty & the Beast, brings together the graffiti artists from New York and California to highlight technique and style.

Crash has grown from establishing a name from murals throughout New York City to decorating guitars for Eric Clapton. Transitioning from graffiti to the the conventional art world, Crash’s bright and bold canvases retain the core feel of his artistic roots. Opus Art has added four works of art by Crash to its website ahead of Pop Crime a duel exhibition with SheOne set to open next month in New Castle. Check all the offers at the Opus site.

Occupying the full gallery space and extending to the facade of the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Born in the Streets – Graffiti covers the origins and spread of the graffiti movement. Among the artists represented are JonOne, Barry McGee, P.H.A.S.E 2, and Evan Roth. With the aim of allowing the public to rediscover the art form, the exhibition remains on view until November 29, 2009.

Through July 23, artnet.com is hosting a sale of Urban Art from 1972- the present. The range includes work from pioneers of the New York Graffiti scene through to contemporary street artists like Judith Supine. In total, 60 artists are represented via 175 paintings and prints.
