Beginning with the tag in the early 1990s, L’ATLAS went on to study Arabic calligraphy with classic and modern masters in Morocco, Egypt and Syria, taking particular inspiration from traditional Kufic calligraphy – the oldest calligraphic form of the Arabic scripts. The artist’s work has evolved towards a nameless writing which unites elements of painting and the tag with calligraphy.

The exhibition Punitions runs through May 28, 2011 at Berlin’s Skalitzers Contemporary Art gallery and features a series of paintings inspired by the punishments of contemporary graffiti and the traditional form of Kufic calligraphy.

ragbone 01 curatedmag rag & bone graffiti contest : houstonPROJECT

After being bombarded with some less than satisfactory wall scrawlings, rag & bone is taking a proactive approach to public and street art at their new NoLita store.

How?

They are hosting a competition for any artist to submit work to. The winning art will be ‘galleried’ on a large wall-of-a canvas outside the store on Houston & Elizabeth. All submissions will be posted on the official rag & bone Facebook, and will be voted on there. The five designs with the most “Likes” will be presented as semi-finalists to the rag & bone visual team, who will vote and choose a winner. In addition to having their work displayed, rag & bone will provide all paint and supplies, as well as a nice size ($1000) store credit. The announcement and additional information will be available at http://www.rag-bone.com.

Full flier after the jump.

hurtyoubad graphics 01 front Hurtyoubad Topsafe T Shirts

Since 2003, Hurtyoubad has covered the global graffiti scene (with a little London bias). The site has now partnered with Topsafe London on a limited edition run of artist driven t-shirts.

Topsafe represents some of the worlds most prolific graffiti writers. Hurtyoubad is one of the most established graffiti resources. The t-shirts make sense.

The line features artwork from an international lineup of artists; Horfé from Paris, Egs from Helsinki, Finsta from Stockholm and Hefs and Siege from London. Using the Hurtyoubad name as a common theme the artists have lent their well established aesthetics to the tees.

The full range is shown in full graphic glory after the jump. There are also some shots with a gorgeous model. Hurtyoubad t-shirts are available here.
