13 540x349 Subliminal Projects Gallery Presents 3 Kings

From the press release -

Subliminal Projects is proud to present its opening fall show 3 Kings, on view September 17 through October 8, 2011. In classic NYC Subway Graffiti lore, a “King” is one who has achieved the most recognition for not only excellence in style but for the mark they have made on the culture. For over thirty years these “3 Kings” have been at the top of the game. Their history-making rise to international prominence from the subway tunnels of New York City was recently chronicled in MOCA’s “Art In The Streets” exhibition. At Subliminal Projects they will be presenting their contemporary work created exclusively for this exhibition. Please join us at a reception for the artists on Saturday, September 17, from 8-11p.m.

Fab 5 Freddy is well known as Hip Hop’s ambassador to the world. His early work with Blondie on the hit “Rapture,” his creation of the seminal film “Wild Style” (directed by Charlie Ahearn) and his groundbreaking shows at the FUN Gallery brought graffiti art, rap music and break-dancing to the big stage. He would go on to co-produce and host “Yo, MTV Raps!”, the first show to regularly feature this culture on TV. Starting with his famous “Campbell’s Soup Can” subway car homage to Andy Warhol, Fred has been at the vanguard– and his new work is no exception.

“Nose Job” At Eric Firestone Gallery

1 540x357 Nose Job At Eric Firestone Gallery

Eric Firestone is pleased to announce a summer group show, Nose Job, curated by Carlo McCormick, running July 15 to August 21, 2011 in East Hampton, NY.

With a sly wink to Warhol’s iconic early Sixties image “Before and After” in which he appropriated and altered a plastic surgery ad for a nose job to comment on our culture’s ideals of beauty, Nose Job is in fact a tribute to the old vernacular folk art form of nose art dating from both World Wars in which soldiers painted images and slogans on the noses of military aircraft.

Participating artists include Aiko, Dan Colen, Peter Dayton, Viejas Del Mercado, Jane Dickson, Shepard Fairey, Futura, How & Nosm, Juan James, Ryan McGinness, Tara McPherson, Raymond Pettibon, Richard Prince, Lee Quinones, Carlos (MARE 139) Rodriguez, Retna, Saner, Kenny Scharf, Shelter Serra, Swoon, JJ Veronis and Aaron Young.

Futura’s recent LA show, Strategic Synchronicity, marked an extraordinary return from one of graffiti’s most influential pioneers: the progression and intricacies of the pieces confirmed the collection as his best work to date – and the sell-out show was greeted with respect and admiration by the art world.

Strategic Synchronicity was produced by curators KRUNK, an international team dedicated to the concept of ‘pop-up’ art shows staged in unique settings, with specially-created multimedia backdrops that use music and film to heighten the viewing experience.

Collectors now have one final chance to own a part of this seminal show: KRUNK has re-created two of the key abstract paintings from the collection in ‘ultimate’ quality print form.

The prints are priced at £525 each, excluding delivery.

Website subscribers can preorder the prints from December 8th; all other buyers can purchase them from December 10th.

After the jump a detailed look at both Futura Prints.
