Terrific.

American designer Kyle Buckner’s recent “Lounge Chair” carved from layered pine curves gracefully from foot to head. Buckner will “design or build just about anything,” however in pieces like this chair he really finds a voice. The stain is red mahogany, the cushions (quite naturally) are leather. Wallpaper* breaks the news of Lulu Bright’s pop-up boutique in London. Open through September 11, 2010, the short stop shop celebrates the launch of the company’s new online platform. The offerings are well balanced mid-century finds, privileging Scandinavian design legends – like Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner and Borge Mogensen. Less ‘famed’ pieces are available for those wishing to start collecting.

A few images from the pop-up shop follow.

Barcelona-based Marina68 produces some fantastic furnishings.  Partners Rafel and Cristian experiment with material contrast (metal, cork, fabric) and the results are quirky without losing site of functionality. Their work in cork, especially, hits the mark – sustainability and design integrity mixed to a rare degree of excellence.

I think the stuff speaks for itself. More after the jump.

Broom Chair by Baita Design

Superb design for regular movers by Brazil’s Baita Design. The Broom Chair requires no nails, no nothing – the seat takes nine birch sticks to make up the legs and back. Both a plasitic and aluminum seat are possible. The plastic, with its terrific potential for color, gets my vote.

The chairs come packaged in an egg crate, as you can see above, for ease.

More looks at the Broom Chair after the jump.

Certainly not for the conservative interior, Conran Shop takes stock of the Squint Oswald Sofa. “The classically elegant design of the Oswald sofa has been upholstered in a unique patchwork of vibrant colors and stripes to create a bespoke one off model. The fabric has been hand created by the design company Squint exclusively for The Conran Shop. The sofa has deep, feather filled cushions, low arms and a comfortable back rest. Each model will have slight variations in the fabric colors and designs but will all have the same spirit.”

finke furniture 01 curatedmag Desk and Chair by Josh Finke

Influenced by stalwarts of California design Greene & Greene and Sam Maloof, furniture maker Josh Finke has produced a solid set of table and chair. The inspiration comes primarily in the craft (exposed joinery, etc.) and there is a discernible Greene & Greene aesthetic. I’m most tickled by the movement of the stretchers… which I think are lovely. (via Industrial Design Served).

More images of Finke’s work follows.

Col-Letto Bed from Lago

I love this bed.

Produced by Lago, the Col-Letto Bed is wrapped in a ring of soft foam – the intent to produce a barrier of light and sound around the sleep space. Much like a turtle neck, the foam ring can be folded back, allowing for some aesthetic variation. Awesome.

Furniture | Simply Birch Coffee Table and Chair

Evan Brooks and Simon Goetz are the designers of Simply Birch. Their coffee table and chair are built with digital fabrication methods, using eco-friendly birch plywood. The lines follow an angular c-curve, which seems appropriate given the production style. The result has good balance and I do like the doubled look of the coffee table very much.

The Twist table collection was designed by German studio Formstelle for Zeitraum. I love the angular flow of the legs, which have terrific depth and a nice taper running from top to base. The tables (and I’m only showing one here) can be made in American Oak or Walnut. (via Contemporist).
