Designed with the iconic Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent in mind, the Acura x “Thor” S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Desk created by Dror Benshetrit, celebrates the automakers roll in the new “Thor” film, staring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Sir Anthony Hopkins. We’ve seen a few film inspired furnishings of late – yes, we won’t soon forget a glut of material pushed from Tron – but this takes a less direct approach to fantasy.

You’ll be able to take a look at DDCLAB through the month of May.

Full looks after the jump.

fox brothers furniture 01 curatedmag Fox Brothers Furniture Studio

Located in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Fox Brothers Furniture Studio has been producing craft furnishings since 1983. Over that time the studio has moved from New Jersey and undergone three name changes. What has not changed is the inventive quality shown in the current selection of desks.

They make, of course, all sorts of furniture. I’ve highlighted the desks primarily because I think the Rumble Desk (above) so superb. Check out the full offerings at Fox Brothers.

finke furniture 01 curatedmag Desk and Chair by Josh Finke

Influenced by stalwarts of California design Greene & Greene and Sam Maloof, furniture maker Josh Finke has produced a solid set of table and chair. The inspiration comes primarily in the craft (exposed joinery, etc.) and there is a discernible Greene & Greene aesthetic. I’m most tickled by the movement of the stretchers… which I think are lovely. (via Industrial Design Served).

More images of Finke’s work follows.

The Molly Desk

molly desk front The Molly Desk

British designer/craftsman Toby Howes takes inspiration from 1950s furniture for the Molly Desk. He’s managed to lighten the mood, adding some sumptuous curves, while retaining the utilitarian look of the era. In short, Howes work is a successful reinterpretation of mid-century, keeping an eye to core detailing without loosing sight of his own identity as a designer.

Howes, a retired ecologist, places (understandably) high priority of sustainability and ethical sourcing. He graduate from King’s College, London, in 1990 and embarked on a 13 year career in ecology before turning to woodworking. His passion is combining the smallest details and elegant line in the most functional design. The Molly Desk, then, is quite indicative of his work.

The contrasting light and dark wood doesn’t hurt either. (via Contemporist).

curated mag - Thomas J. Ptacek Furniture

A wood worker of wide ranging capability, Thomas J. Ptacek works seamlessly through historic restoration, new home building, and furniture design. His furnishings stem from interest in several artistic movements (including Art Deco), but draw most inspiration from the patterns and natural beauty of the reclaimed wood he uses. Ptacek’s furniture falls in many categories, and he seems equally adept at creating desks, tables, and cabinets. The above writing desk of heart pine a brilliant example of his ability to blend the natural characteristic of wood into his designs. (via Dwell).

curated mag - School Days Desk

In all honesty, it is rare that a piece of furniture (or anything) distributed by Urban Outfitters generates more than a passing glance. However, the School Days Desk offers in its pure simplicity a great (and affordable) solution to spacial concern and the need for a minimal laptop mount. Nothing over the top, just a basic frame with perfectly serviceable top. (via Retro to Go).
