Terrific.

American designer Kyle Buckner’s recent “Lounge Chair” carved from layered pine curves gracefully from foot to head. Buckner will “design or build just about anything,” however in pieces like this chair he really finds a voice. The stain is red mahogany, the cushions (quite naturally) are leather. Wallpaper* breaks the news of Lulu Bright’s pop-up boutique in London. Open through September 11, 2010, the short stop shop celebrates the launch of the company’s new online platform. The offerings are well balanced mid-century finds, privileging Scandinavian design legends – like Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner and Borge Mogensen. Less ‘famed’ pieces are available for those wishing to start collecting.

A few images from the pop-up shop follow.

Barcelona-based Marina68 produces some fantastic furnishings.  Partners Rafel and Cristian experiment with material contrast (metal, cork, fabric) and the results are quirky without losing site of functionality. Their work in cork, especially, hits the mark – sustainability and design integrity mixed to a rare degree of excellence.

I think the stuff speaks for itself. More after the jump.

Broom Chair by Baita Design

Superb design for regular movers by Brazil’s Baita Design. The Broom Chair requires no nails, no nothing – the seat takes nine birch sticks to make up the legs and back. Both a plasitic and aluminum seat are possible. The plastic, with its terrific potential for color, gets my vote.

The chairs come packaged in an egg crate, as you can see above, for ease.

Bikes + design = awesome.

“The ALLCITY© x Genesis Flyer features risers as opposed to the standard drops and is a stark opposite to the classic style of the standard Flyer. Limited to just 100 individually numbered units across the size range, the sleek single speed Flyer features neat frame graphics by the London design company ALLCITY©.”

Certainly not for the conservative interior, Conran Shop takes stock of the Squint Oswald Sofa. “The classically elegant design of the Oswald sofa has been upholstered in a unique patchwork of vibrant colors and stripes to create a bespoke one off model. The fabric has been hand created by the design company Squint exclusively for The Conran Shop. The sofa has deep, feather filled cushions, low arms and a comfortable back rest. Each model will have slight variations in the fabric colors and designs but will all have the same spirit.”

In Vienna, outdoor furniture serves more than just a restful function. Well, at least, outside the MuseumsQuartier it does. The Enzo collection, designed by MN*LS Creative Consultancy, offers a flexible modular set up allowing for both play and rest. Given that the previous set were lost to fire, MN*LS gave the second iteration a fire proof element. Smart stuff. Smart design. (via Design Milk).

I love this bed.

Produced by Lago, the Col-Letto Bed is wrapped in a ring of soft foam – the intent to produce a barrier of light and sound around the sleep space. Much like a turtle neck, the foam ring can be folded back, allowing for some aesthetic variation. Awesome.

Jardin de la Connaissance 01 curatedmag Jardin de la Connaissance (Garden of Knowledge)

The 11th International Garden Festival rages on to October 3, 2010, in the frosty climes of Canada. One of the most remarkable contributions to the celebration comes from Berlin-based Thilo Folkerts and Rodney Latourelle. The landscape artist and artist tandem have taken some 40,000 reclaimed books and created the Jardin de la Connaissance (Garden of Knowledge). The result could easily be a stage set for a perfomance of The Secret Garden, but instead is open to visitors who happen to be rolling through Quebec.

Full information about the festival here, more information about the Jardin de la Connaissance at KN.
