moser 01 curatedmag Chaise by Thos. Moser

This surprisingly sleek chaise by Thos. Moser was designed in 2000, a collaborative project between Tom and David Moser. The duo drew inspiration from mid-century European architecture but add a warm, New England feel by employing cherry wood rather than metal piping. The chair reclines fully, with a fluid pivot influenced by Italian aluminum lawn chairs.

Pool’s Remember that You Will Die chair is a (hate to say this, really) refreshing take on the ubiquitous plastic outdoor chair. The basic form is there, clear as day, and then the dark twist just punches it up.

The piece is part of an upcoming exhibition celebrating new French design, entitled New Wave, The New French Domestic Landscape. Opening on April 12, 2011, and running just five days, the Cedric Morissett curated show is hosted in Milan by the French Cultural Center.

Thanks to Micheal La MJC.

Unveiled at Stockholm Furniture Fair, Chris Martin designed the Crown for Swedish firm Massproductions. The lines are intriguing, with the back perched atop the arms. Stacking, as it were, the chair’s elements gives a feeling of fragility, but also creates a great interplay between the form and the negative space produced. Upholstery allows for great flexibility in color too. (via Dezeen).

Appalachian Dining Chair

The Appalachian Dining chair, from the quirky Rich Brilliant Willing, marries painted steel and wood in a variety of configurations. One that speaks most vividly is with cotton webbed seat, adding a third color and texture to the mix. A caned seat option is also available, but doesn’t generate the same depth of contrast. The steel can be, as seen above, both muted and vibrant, also adding to the rang of possibility.

Available from Rich Brilliant Willing – three guys, Theo Richardson, Charles Brill Alexander Williams, who understood the perfect way to play off their respective names.

Elegant chair, in shape. Less so in upholstery.

Of course, that is just a matter of personal taste. The French manufactures, Ak-lh, of this particular Fauteuil (defined as an upholstered armchair with open sides), will likely hope their sense of fun is met with like hearts. (via Shoes Up).

The NEST Chair

nest 01 curatedmag The NEST Chair

I’m regularly drawn to furniture that employs traditional and cutting edge technologies, and the NEST chair is no exception. Here we find traditional bent wood given dynamic life through the use of a CNC machine. The twist to the base does it for me, designer Markus Johansson sells the natural feel of the piece – calling it a place in the home to curl up in.  (via Contemporist).

Emma Selzer’s “Plus Egg Chair” is a magnificent piece of technology. Made of 110 pieces of laser cut plywood, the chairs form private seating environments within public spaces. Selzer designed the “Plus Egg Chair” for a housing project in South Yarra, Australia. The application is easy to imagine in a number of places… I’m particularly fond of furniture that delineates space and allows the user to find a little peace. (via Frame).

More looks at the “Plus Egg Chair” follow.
