With their Lounge chair, TOKENnyc evokes the late 50s/early 60s Gotham high style. The cantilevered wooden frame is fitted with felted wool and cashmere upholstered cushions, melding sophisticated lines with a historical reverence.

“Spurt”, designed by Paulsberg, is made of one piece out of carbon-textile reinforced concrete. Inspired by the silhouette of a sprinter at the starting block, the lounge chair combines strength and vitality. With ergonomically shaped form, the stance of the chair cradles the body and offers a surprising degree of comfort. (via Industrial Design Served).

Contemporist shares the latest from Toronto-based Castor Design. Brian Richer and Kei Ng are behind the firm, and their Curve Chair mixes leather, plastic and wood with simple undulating effect. It’s a terrific accent piece, equally suited for holding court in the living room or kicking back and tossing on the headphones.

Gabriella Asztalos designed The Hug Chair to allow for, and create, intimate interaction. Based on the spherical shape of a hug, the chair is a uni-body construction that leaves two seated people comfortably situated face to face. It’s an eye catching piece (and my remind of a motorcycle stunt) that can elegantly fit into any room with high ceilings. There are several color options, but Asztolos’ design works best when kept to simple  configuration.

Andreas Storiko designed the Volo Chair for Swedish manufacturer Lammhults. The light weight chair is designed for smooth pivot, so you can move from desk to tv to watching the kids to ….

Built of steel and aluminum, the seat lives on steel tubes that extend from the circular base given a feeling of “flying.”

Paul Menand’s Triplette Chair successfully hides one of its core characteristics – the series is totally stackable – to lend an air of mystery. Pop one chair off the stack, reveal the second and then as if by shake of wand, there is a third as well. This is the second version of Menand’s design, which employs terrifically subtle color contrast too.

Being left handed, using an pencil presents some smudgy problems. However, using pencils to make a chair doesn’t have such issue, and that’s exactly what designer Anon Pairot has done. His chair utilizes more pencils than I can count and is rather successful in form too.

Jasper Morrison’s latest design for Vitra, the “Hal” chair, was conceived to meet the needs of any function. Stick it in the hall, round the dining table, or even whip outside. The seat shell is molded plastic which ensures comfort and contrasts quite nicely with the simple wooden legs. Varying colors make the chair even more versatile.

A partnership between Kristalia and Neuland Industriedesign studio, this dynamic chair was originally produced in 2010. Made with either a hide upholstered seat or in polyurethane, the Elephant Chair is available with either solid beech legs or on a swivel base.
