Barcelona-based Marina68 produces some fantastic furnishings.  Partners Rafel and Cristian experiment with material contrast (metal, cork, fabric) and the results are quirky without losing site of functionality. Their work in cork, especially, hits the mark – sustainability and design integrity mixed to a rare degree of excellence.

I think the stuff speaks for itself. More after the jump.

Desk and Chair by Josh Finke

finke furniture 01 curatedmag Desk and Chair by Josh Finke

Influenced by stalwarts of California design Greene & Greene and Sam Maloof, furniture maker Josh Finke has produced a solid set of table and chair. The inspiration comes primarily in the craft (exposed joinery, etc.) and there is a discernible Greene & Greene aesthetic. I’m most tickled by the movement of the stretchers… which I think are lovely. (via Industrial Design Served).

More images of Finke’s work follows.

Evan Brooks and Simon Goetz are the designers of Simply Birch. Their coffee table and chair are built with digital fabrication methods, using eco-friendly birch plywood. The lines follow an angular c-curve, which seems appropriate given the production style. The result has good balance and I do like the doubled look of the coffee table very much.

Leonie Janssen’s Im Perfect Seating Collection

imperfect chairs front Leonie Janssens Im Perfect Seating Collection

While the forms aren’t exceptional, the theoretical underpinnings of Leonie Janssen’s “Im Perfect” seating collection, produced by JSPR, give it an amusing hook.

Essentially, she’s obsessed by the human body. Round bellies, fat breasts, skinny legs… these all inform elements of the collection which has drastic differentiation in proportion between pieces. Like people, some of the chairs are more attractive than others… that’s just not fair, is it? View more of the collection after the jump, be your own judge. (via Contemporist).

vv furniture 5 Recent Furniture Designs by Velichko Velikov

A few new works from Velichko Velikov. Interesting points – the London-based designer flips from severe angularity to sweeping curves in the pieces and plays with a solid range of material. The angular pieces are more playful, and as such more successful. (via Industrial Design Served).

That said, you can be the judge after checking out the full material after the jump.

Softwood by Veronika Wildgruber

Veronika Wildgruber’s Softwood collection has been making the rounds recently, and I’ve still not quite made up my mind about the chairs. While I like the intent, the form is a bit dull. However, the modeling of the seats and backs is quite well articulated, working perfectly to catch the eye and force questions about the material usage.

Wildgruber exhibited Softwood at DMY International Design Fair in Berlin. Images here appear from Design Milk.

This unusual chair and ottoman set was designed by Matali Crasset for French firm Domeau & Perez. Leather wrapped foam makes up the seat and back rest, spaced by the slatted base. The spacing of the pads gives depth to the design, which would otherwise be more than a touch flat.

Nice relaxed seating.

New bookcases from Saba Italia for 2010. In my view, absolutely fantastic. Great movement, functional as well as sculptural. They’ve also got a nice chair in the mix.

brazil front Brazil Chair By Daniel Widrig

Launched last month, at Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, Daniel Widrig’s Brazil Chair adopts techniques used in aerospace and automotive design. The final chair is built on a 5-axis CNC router, the root of a rather complex process.

Technical information aside, Widrig’s design grows from three simple legs and takes a delightfully fluid form through the seat back. Learn more at Frame. Another view of the Brazil chair after the jump.
