2011 shotbyjake.com 3968 540x358 Recap | Incase Andy Warhol Event in NYC

Last night in NYC, Incase and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts celebrated the launch of Incase for Andy Warhol. The event included an installation drawing from Warhol’s seemingly prescient stance on technology and its effect on popular culture with interactive art and music performance. Additionally, the newly released collection was showcased.

The entire event was captured on video via iPhone 4 and streamed live on goincase.com, another feather in the Warhol collection cap – making use of celebrity, technology, and new methods of communication.

Warhol mania continues!

Phaidon’s third volume of The Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonne covers painting and sculpture from 1970 to 1974. Over 700 works of art are included in this volume, sticking to the series goal of offering the most comprehensive and newest scholarship about the artist. Some of the work in this volume was previously thought to be lost… so can be considered new discovery.

For those with a considerable love of Warhol, and those with a concrete interest in American art, the entire Warhol catalogue raisonne series is worth looking out for.

“Andy Warhol: The Last Decade” at the Brooklyn Museum of Art

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade (which began at the Milwaukee Museum of Art) opened the Brooklyn Museum of Art stop over the weekend. The exhibition will remain in King’s County through September 12, 2010.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is the first U.S. museum survey to examine the late work of American artist Andy Warhol (1928–1987). Encompassing nearly fifty works, the exhibition reveals the artist’s vitality, energy, and renewed spirit of experimentation. During this time Warhol produced more works, in a considerable number of series and on a vastly larger scale, than at any other point in his forty-year career. It was a decade of great artistic development for him, during which a dramatic transformation of his style took place alongside the introduction of new techniques.

Some of the work exhibited includes collaborative mixed-media assemblages, like the piece above – Andy Warhol (American, 1928–1987), Jean-Michel Basquiat (American, 1960–1988), and Francesco Clemente (Italian, born 1952). Origin of Cotton, 1984. Mixed media on canvas, 50 ½ x 71 in. (128 x 180.5 cm). Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles is offering a rare opportunity to view the photography of Andy Warhol. 200 works have been selected from the last eleven years of Warhol’s life (1976-1987), documenting his interaction with the city and its objects. An underlying theme is how Warhol’s photography, and the medium itself, informed his silkscreens. The exhibition runs until August 22.
