Newly published by Chronicle, The Exquisite Book includes an illustrated foreword by Dave Eggers, and art from James Jean and Jill Bliss.

In The Exquisite Book, one hundred indie artists play an ingenious version of the Exquisite Corpse drawing game. Each adorns a page with artwork—having seen only the page of the artist immediately prior and using a single horizon line to connect the two. Some continue the “story” quite literally while others build on the previous page in more fanciful ways. This astonishing volume’s format is as unique as its content, with each of the book’s ten chapters residing on a ten-page accordion pull-out, allowing readers to view the art continuously.

“Powers of Ten takes us on an adventure in magnitudes. Starting at a picnic by the lakeside in Chicago, this famous film transports us to the outer edges of the universe. Every ten seconds we view the starting point from ten times farther out until our own galaxy is visible only a s a speck of light among many others. In addition to the youtube release of the Powers of Ten, a new website celebrating the film and offering a few products launched on 10/10/10. (via Arktip).

You Are Here, presented Grupo YMT and Eyelevel BQ, opens this evening in New York City. The exhibition, displaying the work of the “You Are Here” Project, presents a series of interactive video art installations and objects.

The exhibition will run through the weekend (to October 18, 2010).

This short spot was produced in 1998, for the Hokusai and Hiroshige: Great Japanese Prints from the James A. Michener Collection, Honolulu Academy of Arts exhibition that took place at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. I’m posting it because it provides a concise background for both the production and sale of Japanese prints… which remain influential to artists around the world. There is strong historical background of the Edo period too.
