Opening November 17 at West Berlin Gallery and as the title suggests, it will showcase modern day dissidents.

A dissident, broadly defined, is a person who actively challenges an established doctrine, policy, or institution. By acknowledging the social and political unrest of this year, West Berlin Gallery cordially invites you from 18:00 until 22:00 on November 17th, 2011 as we debut Dissidents, a Group Show featuring: ALIAS, SP38 , Prost, Emess, Rallito X, BR1, Linda’s Ex, Niark1, Jakob Tolstrup, and Giacomo Spazio.

Hugh Leeman is an artist living and working in San Francisco. He is self taught. He is helping those that go unnoticed and overlooked to be remembered.

At 18, he grabbed his backpack and traveled the world, hopping trains to see as much as he could. Three years later, he was in the Tenderloin for a six-month stopover. He’s not quite sure why he never left. Inspired by the work that Shepard Fairey and others were doing at the time with wallpaper glue from the hardware store, a world of possibilities exploded in his mind. via: The Bold Italic

At the corner of La Cienega and Venice Blvd in Los Angeles, a new series of murals is set to go up:

Triple A is a two-year public art project initiated by Francois Ghebaly, Emma Gray, Mandrake Bar and OHWOW. Eight internationally recognized artists will be asked to create a single color image to be painted at large scale on the exterior wall of a former muffler shop that sits at the corner of Venice Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard, just south of the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles California. The wall, situated in the Culver City gallery district, also sits at one of the most heavily trafficked intersections in Los Angeles.This location offers high visibility to both arts professionals and the larger general public.

Mark Jenkins makes human body casts out of saran wrap and packing tape. He then places them around the city for a variety of humorous and thought provoking effects. Watch an interview about his purpose and process after the fold.

D*Face has been at it as usual, with an impressive exhibition in Melbourne at Metro Gallery as well as installing cement spray paint cans around the city. Take a closer look after the jump.

El Mac is the latest artist to grace the walls of the Montana Paint compound in Barcelona Spain. Montana, considered by many to be the premier brand of spray paint, has recently had it’s walls adorned with work from the likes of Os Gemeos. Mac threw up a beautiful monochromatic piece in his usual style with the circular textured detailing. More looks, after the fold.

In place of the JR mural that went up in June of this year, Faile has now taken over the notorious space on Houston Street, next to Billy’s antiques. The Brooklyn based troupe, Faile, is the latest of a long line of greats to put up work in that spot. Other recent pieces have included Kenny Scharff, Shepard Fairey and Os Gemeos. For the first time in Australia the phenomenal and notorious D*Face will premiere a solo exhibition at Metro Gallery. Often cited as a challenger to Banksy’s crown as the King of Street Art, and as one of the most exciting and prolific contemporary urban artists of his generation, this exhibition will be the only chance to see D*Face in Australia this year.
