“All you need to know about graffiti is in this book”|By Benoit Ollive

Essai4cover 540x322 All you need to know about graffiti is in this book|By Benoit Ollive

“All you need to know about graffiti is in this book” is a fresh new piece by Benoit Ollive. The piece was inspired by Ollive’s struggle to explain his views on graffiti. He explains,

Graffiti is often misunderstood, and it is difficult for a graffiti writer to explain what he feels about it. I have been asked by a book publisher to write few pages to explain to teenagers how to practice graffiti. After hours and hours I came to the conclusion there was nothing to teach about it except providing the tool to do it. The new generation needs to discover it by practising it instead of reading lessons. Rather than a long sterile speech debating on the good or bad vertues I created my own book to share my point of view through a conceptual message.

David LaChapelle at Lever House

15 August 2011, 17.00 | Posted in Art, sculpture | No comments »

davidlachapelle1 540x405 David LaChapelle at Lever House

It’s unusual for you to be able to walk up to a David LaChapelle painting at a gallery for free, but Lever House is exhibiting the controversial artist’s work in an exhibit titled “From Darkness to Light” through September 30. The exhibit, despite its position in a corporate setting, does not compromise its provocativeness, a signature of David LaChapelle, though the pieces require a closer look because of the beautiful colors and shapes they employ, which trick the eye from afar into thinking they are simply beautiful installations that stop at form.

Lever House is a corporate building in Manhattan which has been housing art exhibits from both prominent and upcoming artists since 2003. Entrance is free.

Gerry Judag “Jaguar E-Type” Sculpture

jaguar 01 curatedmag Gerry Judag Jaguar E Type Sculpture

With a track record of outstanding large-scale sculptural installations at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Gerry Judag didn’t disappoint with his model of a “Jaguar E-Type” at the 2011 event. Designed in 1961, the original E-Type wowed at the Geneva Motor show that year… even Enzo Ferrari conceding that Malcolm Sayer’s performance vehicle was “the most beautiful car ever made.” The automobile is perfect fodder for Judag’s sculpture, sitting on the nose it also functions to provoke a sensational response in the contemporary viewer.

The Festival of Speed closed on July 3, 2011.

fred 01 curatedmag FredTheFrench MP33 Sculpture

37 year old French artist, FredtheFrench lives and works in Lille. His latest sculpture, MP33, consists of 5 towers. Each tower is composed of respectively 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512 original LPs. These quantities correspond to the usual values of computer memory capacity (in gigabytes, 32GB, 64GB, etc.). The work gives physical existence to intangible assets, through a concrete form: vinyl records’s tower. It’s about compression format and about quality of sound.

Fred is represented by For Art Gallery.

“The Ones You Didn’t Write – The Maybach Car”

maybach 01 curatedmag “The Ones You Didn’t Write – The Maybach Car”

In a city without cars, Julian Schnabel’s Venice Biennale work, The Ones You Didn’t Write – The Maybach Car”, certainly stands out. The work, essentially a vandalized test car, drawings by Vahakn Arslanian inside the windows and Schnabel’s scrawl on the body. It has also been shot at. A take on luxury, and a whole lot more. (via Arkitip).
