DSC 0261 540x358 Recap | Bandhini @ Interior Illusions

Last night in Los Angeles, Interior Illusions threw a holiday party that doubled as an introduction to the collaboration between them and home wear designer Bandhini. Bandhini is a sustainable business, based in Australia. All the items are hand crafted with an eye towards the knowledge that all the materials will return to the Earth at some point. They have been partnered with the same group of talented crafts people in India for close to two decades. Each item has it’s own unique signature and you can really see the labor that goes into making each one of these one of a kind pieces.

Craig Costello recently spent some time in Hawaii installing his largest site specific installation to date, via Juxtapoz:

August cover artist Craig Costello, just returned from Hawaii after finishing a new exhibition at Loft In Space, Site-Specific Painting and Sculpture. The exhibition featured Costello’s signature KRINK work; new paintings, his largest sculpture to date, and a 50ft site-specific mural. Even the governor of Hawaii, Neil Abercrombie, checked out the show. The show closed on December 9, but we still have pictures, and we are all envious to those who spend time in Hawaii in December.

dust to dust rgb 540x374 Bigger Than New York

Swiss made graphic artist that goes simple by Lain has a new website, Bigger Than New York. As he describes his work in general:

I think my art is the result of growing up in a quaint Swiss village, being characterized by American influences. I’m talking about rap in the forrests, graffitis on trees, skateboarding on gravel roads and playing basketball amongst cows.

There are some great designs on his site, but the thing that really caught my eye were the cut outs.

One is pictured above, check out more after the fold.

This is Adam Turnbull’s Everyday Illustrations.

AJT This is Adam Turnbulls Everyday Illustrations.Adam James Turnbull wants us to be mindful of everyday objects.

I started working on this series of illustrations just to observe my day a little differently. Most days are spent getting to the studio, drawing, and thinking about briefs, and I just wanted to look at things in another way.

It’s the kind of mindfulness, for example: you can look at a tree and think ‘that is a tree’ or you can look at the shape of the tree, the colours of the leaves, the texture of the bark and the life forms that use it for a home. I wanted to try and apply this to everyday things.

DSCN0276 540x405 Dirty Dishes. Your mom would be so proud.

Vintage dirty pictures on ceramic plates you say?

Sometime in 2010, the folks behind Dirty Dishes had the slightly silly idea of using cheeky vintage photos and putting them on dinner plates. After doing lots of research, talking to lots of people, and receiving loads of positive feedback, they wondered if this idea was so silly after all. And thus Dirty Dishes was born. weiwei 300x317 540x282 GQ Profile on Ai Weiwei

Wyatt Mason penned an article about Ai Weiwei in the December 2011 issue of GQ. The article gives a lot of background on the artist, including chronicling his time spent living in New York, in the 1980’s.  The article also goes into detail about Ai’s constant struggle with the PRC. It’s definitely worth the read. Check it out over here.
