Across the United States, gems of modernist design are hidden in plain site of both general public and arts world. One house, the Miller in Columbus, Indiana, is receiving renewed attention. Antiques Magazines shines a spotlight on the home – designed by Eero Saarinen and decorated by Alexander Girard – in April’s issue. Located 16 kilometers from Paris in Sarcelles, the Sport Court from ECDM creates cover and access for the disabled people of the area. The idea is to remove the context of sport from the nearby secondary school of la Tourelle. The structure is composed of laminate wood and translucent metal. Full information at Arch Daily.

Students at Taliesin West have channeled the spirit of Frank Lloyd Wright (the schools founder) for a new experiment in prefabricated houses. Added to the principles of Wrights design are some green details – including rainwater harvesting and natural ventilation. The structure is 600-sq. feet, with a single bedroom. You may visit the prefabricated home until April 25 at Taliesin West. (via DWR).

To be built out of prefabricated concrete, Allard Architects “Matchbox” has just been approved by the Amsterdam Aesthetics Committee. The building is set for completion in late 2010, and will feature mixed use space ideal for artists and small start up companies. Additionally, space for a rooftop restaurant is proposed. First impressions can mean a lot in buildings, and on that note Clare Dowdy has compiled a few of the best fronts for the most recent Architectural Overview from Wallpaper*. Included is the Library of Birmingham (above), set for completion in 2013.

The latest of Wallpaper*s architectural letters focuses on Japan. Concentrating on non-residential projects the survey includes the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection Museum (above). The museum, located in Kobuchizawa, is the only one in the world dedicated to Haring’s work. Another highlight is the Tamo University Library by Toyo Ito and Associates.

Spring is in the air, which means the new Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is on the way. Japanese Architects SANAA have designed this years Pavilion. Taking the nature of the surrounding park into consideration they’ve devised an aluminum canopy that snakes through the trees. Dezeen has the full story.

A keynote structure of the 2007 Youth Olympic Festival of Jaca, the City of Jaca Hockey Arena houses facilities for figure skating, speed skating, and games of ice hockey. The site was designed by Coll-Barreu Architectos, taking inspiration from the local typography. (via Arch Daily).
