Recap | Brian Dettmer “Altered Books” at Kinz + Tillou

On view through June 11, 2011, Brian Dettmer’s Altered Books explores the sculptural possibility of found and discarded books. Dettmer, who lives in Atlanta, begins by determining the the presentation, engineering and construction of his altered book or books. His next step is altering, using scalpels and hundreds of x-acto blades, the pre-existing information and images by selectively removing and manipulating elements to propose new ideas. The results are fascinating.
