Blu, an Italian muralist whose work has received much attention here, was one of the artists chosen by MoCA chief Jeffery Deitch to participate in the much hyped 2011 exhibition Art in the Streets. Blu completed his mural, but with 24-hours found that reaction had soured. The museum’s buffed the piece. Why? Animal doesn’t know and neither do I.

More looks after the jump.

  1. Dave Golden:

There’s a response from MOCA and some new commentary by Jetset Graffiti; the guys who originally tipped off that this was happening. They’ve also been responsible for all the real-deal street art murals in downtown, under the name LA Freewalls Project… At least artist’s aren’t being censored with that downtown project!

Also, here’s the video of the Buff; by the same guys:

Seriously messed up, and I don’t buy the museum’s excuse at all. They’ve lost all credibility in my opinion. Welcome to LA, Deitch; now leave the streets to the artists.
