Both contemporary and challenger to Banksy, SPARQ comes from the same West Country territory and employs the stencil as his primary weapon. Like Banksy, SPARQ provides witty social commentary. Unlike Banksy, some might say, SPARQ has generally avoided pandering to the commercial end of street art.
In his first solo exhibition at Signal Gallery (96a Curtain Road, London, EC2A), SPARQ tackles the conundrum of “art for protest” vs. “protest art.” The show is entitled Monochromatic Shades opens today and runs until October 2, 2010.
