Over the summer, the Grand Rapids Art Museum and its affiliated art school, Ox-Bow, will celebrate 100 years. Both were founded in 2010 and are the two oldest art institutions in Western Michigan. For the exhibition, which runs June 4 to August 22, 2010, 30 artists from Ox-Bow’s celebrated line of graduate.

One example is distinguished artist Joan Mitchell. Associated with the abstract expressionist movement in New York, Mitchell graduate from the School of Art Institute in 1947. Mitchell’s career brought her to New York and Paris, where in both places she worked with and learned from local artists and her natural surroundings.
