No stranger to sustainable design, William Stranger (sorry, that was horrible) has been building furniture in his Pasadena studio since 1987. He believes in the inherent interdependence between object and designer, maker and environment. Much of his work focuses on the natural beauty of his chosen woods surface character. While his work from reclaimed bowling alley lanes is a slight departure (i.e. less “natural” character) it retains his desire for straightforward design with focus on material and utility. For the “Second Life” project, Stranger pulled wood from the now defunct Tava Lanes bowling alley. From there he created a lovely range of objects, which are on display at Fifth Space in LA until November 14. More info from Inhabitat.
