curated mag - Rethinking the Louvre

One of the world’s most notable art institutions, the Louvre, is undergoing some (somewhat) radical changes. Henri Loyrette, the museum’s director, has brought an American vision of development – both monetarily and physically – to the Parisian palace of art. Included in his shake up, the $67 Million new wing (above) being constructed to house the Islamic art collection. There are also planned (and achieved) satellite locations and revised thinking in relation to membership benefits.

All these things were beautifully contextualized by Carol Vogel in Sunday’s New York Times. For those of us interested in institutional history, as well as the future of museums the piece is a must read. Check it here.
