Os Gemeos on Houston

By now the news that Brazilian duo Os Gemeos has replaced the work of Keith Haring on New York’s Houston Street is old. However, today’s NYT review of the piece delivers a full reading of the mural. It brings graffiti into the rococo phase. “It’s magic realism with a touch of grit.” Most importantly, Roberta Smith’s review is one of the most pointed discussions of street art published in some time. Worth the read, and certainly worth adding to the conversation about the merit and application of new style in public art.
