The Baubike is constructed around the geometric shape of square and equilateral triangle. This frame formation allowed designer Michael Ubbesen Jakobsen the opportunity to stretch the top tube as a method of increasing the range of use for the bicycle. An extra seat or luggage rack is easily added at a moments notice. Quite a novel concept. (via DB).

  1. Tennis:

With this design,Ubbeson effectively defeats the purpose of the accepted form of the bike in all its efficiency…there\’s a reason why it hasn\’t really been messed with for so long. I do appreciate the effort with the abstraction however, and while it misses the boat, the result is rather charming.

  2. DEsign:

Well done. Rejecting a geometrically optimized (triangulated) conventional bicycle frame to pursue a vapid visual agenda. This is why ‘designers’ are generally considered idiots. Masquerading as a ‘critical vehicle’, this project asks no meaningful questions, ignores the potential of the bicycle, and fails to provide any design solution that challenges existing models (see xtracycle.com rather than these ill conceived ‘accessories’). Inspired by Bauhaus design? Did the Bauhaus really advocate useless, inefficient, boutique objects? Oh, it has some squares in the visual composition…right. Very Bauhaus. That’s what they were really all about. Squares. Really embarrassing and somewhat depressing to see such waste pretending to be design. What proud school produced this Jakobsen twirp?

  3. Michael:

Well i\’m not sure why you got such negative comments. I really do like your design. I\’ve been playing with the idea of making a steam powered bike with a quiet large fire box and was trying to think of a nice way of designing a bike with more usable space that a large engine would require. much like what you\’ve done but you\’ve done something with the lines that makes it so beautiful. thanks for sharing! so cool!

everything doesn’t have to be so calculated DEsign, it\’s only a bike and i would have to say i would get more joy out of this bike then my cannondale or puch.
